Islam is not only a religion; instead, it’s a beautiful way of life. Islam states that one can achieve higher ranks through his/her good character and conduct. Our beloved Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) was best in his Character and is a role model for humanity.

There has certainly been for you in the Messenger of Allah an excellent model for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Last Day and [who] remembers Allah often. (Quran 33:21)

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) mentioned good conduct to follow as the best form of worship.

On the Day of Resurrection, nothing will be more massive in the believer’s scale (of good deeds) than good conduct to follow. God hates the one who swears and hurls obscenities.” (Abu Dawud, Al-Tirmidhi)

Good Character is a key to pleasing ALLAH and his beloved Prophet. By maintaining the correct name, one can be a beloved servant of ALLAH. The Prophet said:

The most beloved slaves of God to God are those who have the best manners. (Al-Hakim)

Good Character and conduct In Islam

One man asked Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), “What is a religion”? Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) replied that religion is acceptable conduct. Then the man came in front of him and again asked, “O dear prophet, what is a religion”? He also replied that religion is acceptable conduct. Again man came on his left side and asked about his faith. He replied, acceptable behavior. The man returned to his back and repeated the same question and answered the proper conduct. The holy Prophet told him, “Not to be angry is Good Conduct.” The man then asked what a misfortune is. Prophet (PBUH) replied, terrible conduct.

Hence according to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Islam is nothing but good Character and conduct based on the transparency of both the inner self and outer self.

On the day of Kayama, good conduct will be the most massive righteous deed to be placed on a person’s scale of deeds. Good behavior is vital to enter Paradise. Islam states that anyone with good Character will be with Prophet (PBUH) on the day of Kayama. The Prophet might Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him, guarantees a house within the highest part of Paradise to those with real Character.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) Said:

I guarantee a house in the surroundings of Paradise for those who give up arguing, even if they are in the right; and I assure a home in the middle of Paradise for those who abandon lying even when joking, and I guarantee a house in the highest part of Paradise for those who have good Character and manners.

(Sunan Abu Daawood: 4800)

There is a story that a non-Muslim lady places waste material in the path of the Prophet (PBUH) through which the Prophet (PBUH) walked every morning.

The Prophet (PBUH) would see it in his way until there came a day when she failed to place waste material in his path. As it was so strange, Prophet (huh) asked about the old lady, and when he heard that the old lady was sick, he used to visit her and clean her house. She got impressed with his excellent and noble conduct and declared her belief in the message of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Prophet (PBUH) was so kind to everyone.

He was the best father, the best teacher, and the best husband. It teaches us that we should be noble and kind to others as much as possible and even to those who are rude and not kind to us. It is what Islam calls good Character.

And spend for the sake of Allah and do not throw [yourselves] with your [own] hands into destruction. And strive for excellence; indeed, Allah loves those who strive for excellence.

Al-Baqara – 2:195

So we must study good Character and conduct. We can make life beautiful in both worlds (this life and life after death). As Muslims and humans, we should always follow Prophet Muhammad to become amongst the most effective Muslims with the most significant potential as stepping nearer to ALLAH and a permanent resting abode in Paradise.
