The Holy Quran has remained unchanged, since it had been first written, for a reason. Every word from the Quran is from Allah (SWT) and is significant to its meaning, which is why it is important to learn Quran Tajweed. Tajweed means to master something. When using the term “Tajweed” in regards to the Holy Quran, it ways to learn its proper recitation. It includes pronouncing each word the way it is supposed to be pronounced. The Quran uses the Arabic language, which is the most powerful language of all, but also very sensitive. Any mispronunciation of its words or letters could alter its actual meaning. That is why it is important to use Quran Tajweed when reciting it.
Tajweed was not learned during the beginning few years of the revelation of the Quran, but later when there existed a mixture of Arabs and non-Arabs within the society. Today, there are many forms of Arabic language, so even the Arabs have to learn the correct Arabic Tajweed. As a result of learning the Quran Tajweed, one would be able to recite the Quran as beautifully as it is meant to be recited. The sense of peace attained from its recitation happens to be one of the well-known reasons why people become more curious about Islam. This feeling of pleasure then persuades them to research this religion further and quite commonly even revert to it. Therefore, excellent Quran Tajweed is of great importance and should not be neglected.
A man once asked Imam Sadiq (a.s) “what is means to recite the Quran in a well-measured way. Imam Sadiq (a.s) then replied saying, ‘Ameerul Moomin in (a.s.) has said: ‘Recite it explicitly, and do not cut it like the cutting of the hair (or do not read it like poetry), and do not scatter it like the scattering of sand (or do not read like prose)”. Reflect on its wonders and motivate with your hard hearts. Never think how to finish the Surah quickly.’’ The Holy Quran is not like any other book and it comprised of miracles that can only be unlocked if it recited in its best form, with the Quran Tajweed. It is neither poetry nor prose. Allah (SWT) emphasizes the importance of reciting the Quran in its proper way, with Quran Tajweed, in Surah Baqarah, verse 121: “Those to whom we have given the Book, and they recite it observing the rights of its recitation-they are the ones who believe in it. And those who disbelieve in it, they are the losers.”
The Holy Quran contains many benefits and guards its reciters against harm. It mentioned in Surah Zumar, verse 28, “(It is) a Qur’an in Arabic, without any crookedness (therein): so that they may guard against Evil,” showing how precise the Quran is in every which way possible. If one were to bend its meaning intentionally, even if it were by the slightest, then there await great consequences for him/her. Thus, it is important for one to find any means possible to learn the Quran Tajweed.
