“O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient. (2:153)

We, the Muslims believe that all hardships and ease are tests from Allah. Everything Allah chooses for us.So, from good or evil, is for our own good. And He rewards only those who remain patient and steadfast. Panic and impatience cannot prevent Allah’s Decree. Shikwah (complaining) is contradictory to Sabr (patience). Because We believe that Allah alone can protect us from all sorts of harm and He alone, can ease our difficulties. So, patience is obligatory.

Allah promises reward for those who endure with patience. As mentioned in Surah Baqarah,

“Be sure we shall test you with something of fear and hunger, some loss in goods or lives or the fruits (of your toil), but give glad tidings to those who patiently persevere .”(2:155)

And Allah clarifies this again as

“We shall try you until We test those among you who strive their utmost and persevere in patience; and shall try your reported (mettle).” (47:31)

“Seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ].” (2:45)

In Quran:

The Holy Quran defines patience as key quality of the believer.

“Those who show patience, Firmness and self-control;  are true (in word and deed); and who worship devoutly; spend (in the way of Allah); and pray for forgiveness in the early hours of the morning.” (3:17)

So, Allah tells us that patience and forgiveness are among the things recommended by Allaah and those who pay heed to this will never lose, as He says:

“And verily, whosoever shows patience and forgives, that would truly be from the things recommended by Allaah”(42:34)

The AlQuran is full of promises of reward for the patient believer. In Surah Hud, Allah mentions reward for those who are patient in adversity:

“Except for those who are patient and do righteous deeds; those will have forgiveness and great reward”. (11:11)

And again in Al-Imran,

“neither O You who believe! Persevere in patience and constancy; vie in such perseverance; strengthen each other; and fear Allah; that ye may prosper.” (3:200)

In Surah Al-Mu’minun,

“Indeed, I have rewarded them this Day for their patient endurance – that they are the attainers [of success].” (23:111)

The Prophet (sall-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“There is no affliction which strikes the Muslim except that Allah expiates with it (sins), even with a thorn that may poke him.” (Bukhaaree & Muslim)

May ALLAH give us all the patience to survive through hardships and be thankful for all His Blessings. Ameen.
