What is Depression?

Depression or major depressive disorder is a medical illness that causes a constant feeling of sadness and lack of interest. This affects how the person feels, behaves, and thinks. So, it can lead to emotional and physical problems. Typically, people with depression find it hard to go about their day-to-day activities and may also feel that life is not worth living.

What causes Depression?

There are many reasons for depression. It is a medical condition, yes. But in most cases, depression is self-induced. We start thinking that we are in depression. And we keep thinking about how heartbroken we are. How very unsatisfied we are. How others are happier than us, and finally, we end up all blue and depressed.

How to Beat Depression?

Believe me, and it’s in your hand. All you need is the will to get rid of it and the determination and, well, of course, a constant inspiration, and you can easily Beat depression.

Inspiration

What comes to your mind? Oh yes! It is AlQuran indeed.

If you do not aid him [i.e., the Prophet] – Allāh has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he [i.e., Muhammad] said to his companion, “Do not grieve; indeed Allāh is with us.” And Allāh sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with soldiers [i.e., angels] you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allāh – that is the highest. And Allāh is Exalted in Might and Wise.

Tips how to overcome Depression?

Beautify your Prayers

First thing first. Beautify your Prayer. Put your heart in your prayers and worship. So, please, Don’t do it as an obligation, do it as a means of contentment. Learn the meaning of whatever you recite in your Salah, or it won’t be any more than a Robotic routine. Also, again Learn new Soorahs and MUZZAYAN(Decorate /beautify) your salah.

Learn Quran

Quran is the best guide, and it enlightens one’s path no matter what. And Allah bestowed Us “The Ummah” with this book. Why not utilize it for our benefit, then? And remember, nothing is impossible. Just make up your mind and try to learn the Quran and its message slowly but consistently. It is a great way to beat depression.

Don’t be sad; stay Happy.

Don’t Be Sad Allah is with us.

What a beautiful reminder, isn’t it?

Whenever you feel alone or sad, do not forget to Beat your depression by reminding yourself that Allah is with you.

Be grateful; stay Happy.

Never fail to Thank Allah no matter how sad you feel; remember, if you can “FEEL” dejection, you owe that to Allah because he can take away the ability to feel, see, walk, breathe, move, blink from you any moment. So,  He doesn’t owe you anything. You owe him everything. Remember this, and you’ll be humbled.

Be Sensitive

Be Sensitive to the situations and emotions around you. And to the feelings of those who depend on you or who you depend on. If you drown yourself in the swamp of disappointment, your fellows will be submerged along with you. Do you not care? Of course, you do. right?

Meditate

Meditate. That’s crucial to take medicine

Here’s a tip, rise early every morning (before the sun rises) and go for a walk on a peaceful, beautiful green place (probably your front lawn). Walk barefooted on the damp grass.

Breathe in. Breathe out. Relax.

When you breathe in to say “A.L.L.A.H.” with every air intake, imagine that you’re receiving his blessings, imagine that you’re happy, and imagine whatever you ever dreamed of.

Then breathe out and imagine that you’re exhaling all your problems, your worries, and your insecurities.

Repeat the exercise for as long as you feel entirely calmed out and happy.

It’s the best exercise and yields excellent results in beating depression.

Dhikr

Do a lot of Dhikr.

Those who have believed and whose hearts find peace in the remembrance of Allāh – surely it is in the remembrance of Allāh that hearts find peace.”

(AlQuran 13:28)

Make sure you make a schedule for your days and follow it. You do fix time every day to do some Dhikr (Zikr).

Recite duas, recite Asma-ul-Rabbi (Allah’s names, e.g. Al-Wakeel and AL-Wadood (these are bound to bring you peace and tranquillity)) as much as you can. Read a portion of the Quran daily with Tafseer / translation. Recite ayat mentioned above too. It has excellent soothing and healing powers for the heart.

Insha Allah, you’d feel the difference soon. May Allah save us from sins and depression. Ameen!!
