The Adhan is the call to worship ALLAH in Islam. It is recited by someone from the Mosque called Moazzen at scheduled times of the day. The word Adhan means “to listen, to hear, and inform about”
Adhan in Islam has a great significance. It is not the mere ringing of the bell or the meaningless blowing of horns. But This is an appeal from an individual soul to the soul of humanity to turn to ALLAH, to follow the lead of Muhammad as His messenger, and to come to contribute of the spiritual feast for the progress and the nourishment of the soul.
So, Adhan relates to the word ‘announcement’. In the Holy Quran it is stated that:
“And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger to the people on the day of the greater pilgrimage that Allah and His Messenger are free from liability to the idolaters.”(9:3)
Importance of Adhan:
Adhan is highly recommended act in prayer. It has a unique significance and importance. When a person is hungry and thirsty on the earth, and performs namaz after listening the azaan, ALLAH orders the angels pray behind him in rows. So, They bow when he bows and say amen when he commands.
Hazrat Muahammad ﷺ said:
“When you hear the Adhan, repeat what the Mu’adhdhin says. Then ask Allah to exalt my mention because everyone who does so will receive in return ten rewards from Allah. Then beseech Allah to grant me Al-Wasilah, which is a high rank in Jannah, fitting for only one of Allah’s slaves; and I hope that I will be that man.
If anyone asks Al-Wasilah for me, it becomes incumbent upon me to intercede for him.”[Muslim]
Whoever utters the sentences of the Adhan, will find his heart full of delightful grace and purity. As a Muslim we have to recognize the importance of Azaan. It is a component of our Islam beliefs. So, let us remember our duty of worshiping Allah.
