In today’s world, where science and technology are everywhere, it’s still really important to strengthen our faith. Science helps us understand things with facts and logic, but faith adds something special to our lives. It gives us comfort, direction, and strength when things are uncertain.

As the world changes fast, having faith is like having a steady rock to hold onto. It helps us feel like we’re part of something bigger and meaningful. And another great thing about faith is that it helps us care about and understand people from different backgrounds. This makes us feel connected, no matter where we’re from. In the middle of all the busyness of modern life, taking care of our faith can give us a sense of calm and help us see the beauty in things that science can’t explain fully.

Tips to Increase Faith

Sometimes we are low on Faith (Imaan), we become negligent and stop observing Islamic rules and practices. We don’t feel the taste of Faith. Here are some tips to increase faith (Imaan) whenever we feel a little run down:

  • Explore Your Beliefs:

Take time to understand your current beliefs and values. Study your religious texts, teachings, or philosophical writings that resonate with you. Engaging with the core principles of your faith can deepen your understanding and connection.

  • Read Quran:

One should read Quran with meaning a lot. It’s better to read Quran with meaning and translation. So one must understand what they are reading. Ponder over the meaning of each verse. Try to understand the explanation and background of each Quran verse. Allah says:

And whenever a sūrah is revealed, there are among them [i.e., the hypocrites] those who say, “Which of you has this increased faith?” As for those who believed, it has increased them in faith, while they are rejoicing.

But as for those in whose hearts is disease, it has [only] increased them in evil [in addition] to their evil. And they will have died while they are disbelievers.

[Surah al-Tawbah:124-125]

And it is stated in the Quran that the Quran is the healer for those who believe in Allah’s mercy.

“And We send down of the Qur’an that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe” [Surah al-Isra:82]

  • Ponder over Allah’s names and Attributes:

The more a person learns about Allah through His name and attributes, the more he will increase faith. As we see Allah has many names which describe Allah in detail. if a person reads them they will become a means of strengthening His relationship with Allah.

  • Looking at signs of Allah in-universe:

Increase Faith is looking at the signs of Allah in the universe and the signs of Sharee’ah. (i.e., verses of the Quran and miracles of the Prophet (PBUH), etc.). The more a person looks at the signs of Allah in the universe, the more he increase faith. Allah says in the Quran:

وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ءَايَٰتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ

“And on the earth are signs for those who have Faith with certainty.

And also in your selves. Will you not then see?”

[Surah al-Dhaariyaat: 20-21]

  • Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah):

One should remember Allah a great deal (Dhikr), by reciting the supplication and Duas narrated in the ahaadeeth such as

Laa ilaaha ill-Allaah

There is no god but Allah

Subhaan Allaah wa’l-hamdu Lillaah wa laa ilaaha ill-Allaah wa Allaahu akbar

Glory be to Allaah, praise be to Allaah, there is no god but Allaah, and Allaah is great

and many more. Remembering Allah helps to increase faith and brings peace:

ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَتَطْمَئِنُّ قُلُوبُهُم بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۗ أَلَا بِذِكْرِ ٱللَّهِ تَطْمَئِنُّ ٱلْقُلُوبُ

“Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah) and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” [Surah al-Ra’d:28]

  • Engaging in Regular Prayer

Consistent practice is key to strengthening faith. Engage in daily rituals, prayers, or meditations that align with your beliefs. This routine can help you maintain a connection and sense of purpose. One should observe regular Prayers and other acts of worship to strengthen Faith. Allah says:

“The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts. And when His Verses (this Quran) are recited unto them, they (i.e. the Verses) increase their Faith. And they put their trust in their Lord (Alone),

Who performs As-Salaah (Iqaamat-as- Salaah) and spend out of that We have provided them.

It is they who are the believers in truth. For them are grades of dignity with their Lord, and forgiveness and a generous provision (Paradise)”

[Surah al-Anfaal:2-4]

Regular prayers, as emphasized in Islamic teachings, play a crucial role in deepening faith. When Allah’s name is mentioned, true believers experience a reverent fear in their hearts, and recitation of His verses increase faith further. This reliance on the Lord is complemented by the performance of Salaah (prayer) and acts of charity (spending from what has been provided).

  • Study the stories of the Prophets:

We should study the stories of the Prophets. Because Allah narrated them in the Quran to make the heart of the Prophet (Peace be upon Him), and the believers with him, steadfast. Allah says:

“And all that We relate to you (O Muhammad) of the news of the Messengers is so that We may make strong and firm your heart thereby. And in this (chapter of the Quran) has come to you the truth. As well as an admonition and a reminder for the believers” [Hood 11:120]

  • Good Company:

Participating in a community or online forum where you can connect with fellow Muslims holds significant value for gaining knowledge of Islam. Such gatherings dedicated to seeking knowledge hold great virtues, as emphasized by the teachings of Islam. Online communities and forums provide an accessible and convenient platform to expand your understanding of Islam and engage in meaningful discussions.

The example of a good companion and a bad one is the bearer of musk and the worker on the bellows. A bearer of musk would give you some, you might buy some from him. Or you might enjoy the fragrance of his musk. The worker on the bellows, on the other hand, might spoil your clothes with sparks from his bellows. Or you get a bad smell from him.”
(Reported by Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

Reflecting on the words of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), he likened good companions to a bearer of musk, whose presence brings pleasant fragrance and benefit. On the other hand, he compared negative companions to a worker using a bellows, which can either stain your clothes with sparks or emit an unpleasant smell. This analogy underscores the importance of surrounding yourself with positive, knowledgeable individuals who can enlighten your understanding of Islam and inspire your faith. Joining such communities can lead to mutual growth and a deeper connection with your faith.

  • Listen to Quran Recitation and lectures:

Whenever we listen to Quran recitations or lectures of scholars that helps increase faith by fostering a deeper spiritual connection and understanding of Islamic teachings. When we listen to the recitation of the Quran, we are enveloped in the beauty and rhythm of its verses, which serve to purify the heart, uplift the soul, and remind us of divine wisdom and guidance.

Conclusion

As we deal with the complicated world we live in today, taking care of our faith is important. Even though science and technology explain a lot, faith gives us a special way to see life. It gives us comfort, a reason to keep going, and strength when things are unsure. As things change quickly, faith is like a strong anchor that connects us to something bigger than us. And having faith helps us care about and understand people from different backgrounds. This makes us feel connected even if we’re from different places.

In the middle of our busy lives, looking after our faith brings calm and lets us see the beauty in things that science can’t completely explain. So, by learning more about our beliefs, reading religious teachings, thinking about Allah’s qualities, praying regularly, and being part of a supportive community, we can make our faith stronger. And listening to the Quran and talks that inspire us can make our spiritual connection even deeper. If we do these things, we can increase faith and give us the strength, direction, and peace we need to face the modern world with confidence and purpose.

May Allah increase faith. And help us to catch up with what we have missed in good deeds, and make us steadfast in Islam. Ameen.
